The Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) court in Mapusa on Thursday remanded four men accused of the violent assault on two attendants at a private pay-parking facility in Morod-Mapusa to 14 days’ judicial custody. The accused had earlier been in police custody for four days, which ended on Wednesday.
When the case came up for hearing, police sought an extension of custody by another five days, citing the need for further investigation. However, the defence strongly opposed the move, arguing that despite four days of interrogation, police had failed to recover any incriminating material.
The incident occurred around noon on August 27, when attendants Sandeep Kumar and Prakash Talwar asked one of the accused to park his two-wheeler properly. The confrontation quickly escalated, and the attendants were assaulted.
Talwar was stabbed with a knife during the scuffle and suffered grievous injuries.
While four accused have been arrested, police are yet to track down the fifth suspect linked to the case.
