CANACONA
Four people, including a girl from Karwar, were injured in a head-on collision between two two-wheelers at Madditolop-Loliem in Canacona on Saturday.
According to sources, one of the two-wheelers, with a Goa registration, was heading from Canacona towards Karwar, while the other, with a Karnataka registration, was coming from Karwar towards Canacona. The two collided head-on while riding on the straight stretch of the NH-66 highway at Madditolop, Dapot-Maxem.
It is learnt that one of the bikers reportedly strayed onto the opposite side, crossing over the centre line of the road, leading to the collision.
The impact threw off both riders and their pillion passengers, resulting in injuries to all four individuals. Two of them sustained grievous injuries, including head injuries.
The two-wheeler from Karwar reportedly had a girl as a pillion rider, while the scooter heading towards Karwar had two Goan youth.
Panic spread among locals who rushed to assist the injured, as the 108 ambulance service was delayed for several minutes. The two seriously injured individuals were left in pain, with blood oozing from their wounds.
Finally, an ambulance arrived and moved all four injured persons to the Community Health Centre (CHC), Canacona. After receiving first aid, they were later shifted to the South Goa District Hospital (SGDH), Margao, for further medical attention.
