During the past five-and-a-half years, six manufacturing companies have written to the electricity department complaining of interruption in power supply during the manufacturing process, and the losses incurred due to this. The letter sent to the department stated that as the power supply was not continuous, they had to bear the brunt which is a huge loss.
While replying to a query from Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai, Power Minister Sudin Dhavalikar stated that six companies including Finolex, Pissurle Industry Association, Alcofin, V A B Industry LLP Company, Naina Containers and Krupa Plastic complained of irregular power supply.
The senior officer from Finolex had written two letters - on August 1 and September 5, 2022 - stating that during the months of July and August, the power supply was interrupted 32 times. As the electricity went off while an important manufacturing process was going on, the company had to bear losses, said the letter.
Pissurle Industrial Association wrote on December 12, 2022, complaining of irregular power supply, and its repercussions on the industries.
Alcofin wrote a letter every month from August 2022, mentioning that in August, the electricity went off 35 times, in September 48 times, in October 57 times, in November 22 times and in December 20 times “ all of these during the crucial time when work was on. During this entire period, the electricity was absent for 90 hours in total, stated the company.
V A B Industry LLP has complained of a low-pressure power supply, due to which the work gets interrupted. Naina Containers and Krupa Plastic have also given in writing that the power supply was not regular.
