60 jobless contract workers hold stir at airport

About 60 contract labourers attached to Dabolim airport on Tuesday protested outside the airport demanding their reinstatement as loaders.

The labourers said they are without jobs for the last one year and accused the airport authority of failing to pay heed to their demands to reinstate them. “We have been facing hardship to cope up with the family expenses as we were without salaries for the last one year,” said a labourer.
The labourers said the airport authority instead of reinstating them has selectively taken only 12 labourers and around 58 labourers are
left out.  Airport Director B C H Negi said the airport authority neither suspended nor terminated any contract labourers. “The contract of the agency, which had hired these labourers, has expired and no agency has shown any interest in the new contract,” said Negi.
