60-yr-old man dies in car mishap

VALPOI

A 60-year-old man died after the car he was driving overturned two to three times on the Pali-Jambhali road on Saturday evening. The deceased, identified as Rajendra Dattraj Chavan, was originally from Kolhapur, Maharashtra, and was residing at Ansole under Bhironda Village Panchayat.

According to information received, Chavan was travelling from Belagavi towards Pali via Chorla in his Alto 800 car (GA 07 K 4219) at around 5.30 pm when he reportedly lost control while negotiating a downhill stretch of the paved road. The car overturned multiple times, leaving him critically injured. He was also reportedly trapped beneath the overturned vehicle.

Following the accident, local residents and other commuters rushed to the spot and helped rescue Chavan from beneath the wrecked car. They subsequently contacted the 108 ambulance service for emergency medical assistance.

However, difficulties in bringing the ambulance to the accident spot reportedly delayed the shifting of the injured man. Chavan was eventually being transported towards the Sanquelim Health Centre via Keri when he succumbed to his injuries while the ambulance was passing through Keri.

Following his death, the body was sent to Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC), Bambolim, for a post-mortem examination.

The accident has once again raised concerns over road safety on the Pali-Jambhali route, particularly along downhill stretches where motorists need to exercise caution. The reported delay in getting the ambulance to the accident spot has also highlighted the challenges involved in providing timely emergency medical assistance in such locations.
