Terekhol Coastal Security Police detained eight tourists from Mumbai and Pune after they were found paragliding without a license at Keri beach on Saturday afternoon.

The police seized the paragliding equipment and will ask the tourism department to initiate action against the violators.

Authorities have initiated strict measures to clamp down on illegal paragliding activities after a paragliding trip had ended in tragedy when a 26-year-old tourist from Pune and the paraglider pilot were killed at Keri-Pernem on January 18.

On Saturday, eight tourists from Mumbai and Pune were found engaged in paragliding activity along the Keri coast.

Since they did not have any kind of license for the paragliding activity, a Terekhol Coastal Police team led by Police Inspector Vikram Naik detained the eight tourists and confiscated their equipment.
