8-year-old rescued, kidnapper arrested from Mumbai

Four days after an eight-year-old was allegedly abducted from his residence in Navelim-Bicholim, local police traced the child in Mumbai and also arrested the accused.  

Bicholim police revealed to the media that Feko Kumar, a 30-year-old from Bihar, was apprehended in Kalyan Phaata, Mumbai, and the victim-child rescued. The accused was subsequently arrested.  

According to the complaint filed by victim’s father Sarif Shah on March 14 -- also from Bihar and residing in Navelim, the 8-year-old was abducted by unidentified person/s, although he suspected his neighbour.  

Two investigative teams, led by PI Dinesh Gadekar, collaborated to locate both the suspect and the victim.  

“The suspect resided in a rented room adjacent to the complainant’s residence. After the incident, he disappeared from the area. Two teams were thereafter dispatched to Mumbai based on the suspect’s mobile phone location. Eventually, a team led by PSI Sunil Pati apprehended the suspect at Kalyan Phaata after extensive interrogation. Although the accused initially did not cooperate, the team traced and rescued the victim,” stated the police.  

The accused has been charged under section 363 (kidnapping) of the Indian Penal Code and section 8 of the Goa Children’s Act. The motive behind the offense remains unknown.
