There something niceabout dining in the middle of Panjim’s Latin quarter, with classic rock playingsoftly in the background and coloured tables, guitars on the walls and warmfriendly faces who attend to you. Flavours, at Elite lodge on 31 January road,is a hole in the wall of sorts that dishes out Goan food with a home cookedfeel.
Take this appetizer, lady fingers in recheado masala. The combination is not that familiar to mostbut one bite is enough to get you hooked. The chicken xacuti is light and thepork vindalho has a spicy yet mildy sour tinge that actually accentuates it.But, the best thing about Flavours at Elite isn’t all of the above, the spicybeef chilly or the simple rava fried fish. Tongue with garlic and chilly andthe roast pork are the two stand out dishes of this little piece of heaven, that Richard and Charles Soares run. The tongue, prepped by their mother, issoft, with minimal spice. The crunchy chunks of garlic and the late burst ofheat from the chilly all come together seamlessly. The pork roast does havethis mix of textures but it’s just the softness of the meat that comes apartand practically melts in your mouth.
Flavours is aninexpensive place to have brilliant food. A must visit for anyone in Panjim,Goa, or the world.
