The ESG in association with Kala Academy announced its annual Goa Environment Film Festival on Monday.
The Environment Film Festival will have three categories: the school category, the college category, and the open category. While the theme for schools and colleges will be “Beat the Plastic”, based on the UNs theme for Environment Day this year, the theme for the open category is “Environment.”
Noted film director Rajendra Talak announced to the press that submissions for the school category will be accepted in Konkani, Marathi, Hindi and English.
“If the film is in a language other than English, it needs to have subtitles,” he said. For the open category, films can be submitted in any Indian language mentioned in the 8th Schedule of the Constitution and should be produced by an Indian citizen.
The films should be between 2 and 6 minutes long and can be submitted on DVD, Blu Ray Disc or on a pen drive. Film critic Sachin Chatte said that the 2- 6 minute time limit for the films was decided so that those who want to shoot on their smartphones can do so, and also so that cost of shooting would reduce.
“Short films will be high on concept, and will convey the message without wasting time,” Chatte said.
The last date to register for the competition is July 16. Forms should be submitted to the ESG office in Panjim. Registration forms can be found on the ESG website. The last date to submit the films is August 16.
The award ceremony will be held on August 31 and September 1 at the Goa Environmental Festival, where the award-winning films will also be screened. A cash prize of Rs 10,000 and Rs 5,000 will be awarded to first and second place winners respectively to both the school and college categories separately.
For the open category, a cash prize of Rs 30,000 will be awarded to best film and Rs 20,000 to second best film. Goans can participate in any category. Unlimited entries can be submitted per school. However, for the school and college categories, entries need to be forwarded by the institution.
ESG intends to screen the films all over Goa to increase awareness about problems facing our environment, and to encourage young Goan filmmakers.
