Anguished over the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) decision to stay away from any alliance with the Congress, the party’s working president Rajesh Kalangutkar resigned on Wednesday.
Kalangutkar, who contested from the Mayem constituency in the 2022 Assembly elections, said he was deeply disappointed by the party leadership’s refusal to consider an alliance ahead of the 2027 Goa Assembly polls.
He said repeated statements by AAP leaders, including former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, against forming an alliance for the next Assembly elections had forced him to step down.
“The need of the hour and the people’s demand is that all opposition parties unite against the BJP ahead of 2027. But Kejriwal’s statement that the party will not ally with anyone has deeply upset me,” Kalangutkar said.
He added that a divided opposition would only split votes and make it easier for the BJP to win the upcoming elections.
