The Aam Aadmi Party on Tuesday announced the formation of its "Non-Resident Goan and Seamen” frontal headed by Capt Wenzy Viegas with Michael Benny as its coordinator.

The AAP Goan NRE and Seafarers frontal has proposed a seafarers manifesto for the Goan seafarer ahead of the coming election.

Addressing the media, Capt Wenzy said the NRE frontal will tackle all issues related to Goans specifically working in the merchant Navy, cruise ships and overseas. "It will also assist those overseas and in distress," he added.

He said the frontal will also work out modalities for mechanisms by which their interests back home in Goa, including securing their immovable property during their absence, are safeguarded.

Elaborating on the seafarer manifesto, Capt Wenzy said that AAP will take up social security policy for seafarers, upgrade pension scheme for retired seafarers; upgrade pension scheme for seafarers widows; to make NUSI hospital a part of the State government health 3-tier system; promote employment opportunities for retired seafarers, provide IMO & DG approved medicals at government clinics and conduct entrepreneurship programme for the seafarers.

Michael Benny will be assisted on the frontal by Secretary Gerson Gomes, Treasurer Alloysious Fernandes and members Capt Elborn D’Silva and Eng Tribio Goes.
