AAP woos Goans with poll guarantees

Kejriwal promises 300 units free power, Rs 3,000 monthly for women

AAP woos Goans with poll guarantees

MARGAO

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday announced a series of guarantees for Goa, including 300 units of free electricity for every household.

Addressing a Zonal Volunteers’ meet in Margao, Kejriwal said an AAP government would provide relief to people and transform the State’s electricity, healthcare, women’s welfare, public transport, sports and land governance sectors.

AAP Goa in-charge and former Delhi Chief Minister Atishi Marlena, State president Valmiki Naik, MLAs Capt Venzy Viegas and Engr Cruz Silva and other party leaders were present.

Kejriwal announced that electricity bill arrears up to August 31 would be waived and every Goan family would receive 300 units of free power. He said nearly 90 per cent of Goans consume less than 300 units a month and would therefore have zero electricity bills. He also promised reliable, uninterrupted power supply and an end to frequent outages.

He promised Rs 10 lakh health insurance for every family, saying people were forced to depend on Goa Medical College while private healthcare remained unaffordable. Citing AAP’s Punjab model, he said families would be able to access treatment at private hospitals while the government bears the cost through insurance.

Kejriwal also promised Rs 3,000 monthly for every woman above 18, with the amount credited directly to her bank account, besides free bus travel for women across Goa.

He promised sports grounds in every village and locality and said an AAP government would scrap Section 39A of the TCP Act.

Kejriwal urged Goans to defeat the BJP in the Assembly elections and alleged that the government was imposing E20 fuel, which he claimed would affect 85-90 per cent of Goan households.

Atishi called for the removal of the BJP government, while Valmiki Naik said AAP was the only party capable of saving Goa from Section 39A.

Viegas said the AAP MLAs from Velim and Benaulim had remained loyal to the party and worked for their constituencies. Cruz Silva said people were looking for change and alleged that the BJP government had failed to protect Goa.
