ACGL workers begin strike, threaten protests on Wed

Workers of the ACGL unit at Bhuimpal-Sattari began their strike on Monday and threatened further protests from Wednesday, if their demands were not met.

A notice regarding the strike had been submitted by the company's trade union to the ACGL management and the labour commissioner about a fortnight ago.

The workers have claimed that various demands have been pending for three years. The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) Sanghatana has pledhed full support to the striking workers.

The workers began their strike by assembling in the company premises at 8 am on Monday.

Later speaking to reporters, Subhash Parab of the union said the management had sought till Tuesday to consider the demands of the union.

“If no satisfactory settlement is reached, all workers along with their families will protest on the streets from Wednesday and the responsibility will fall on the management and the government,” said Parab.

Trade union leader Gunaji Parab said the workers were united in pressing for their demands.

MNS office bearer Yashwant Hadge said the strike would intensify from Wednesday.
