Activists protest hill cutting for plots at Curtorim
Say Dy Collector, TCP and Flying Squad have failed to act on complaints

Members of the NGO, United for Mother Goa, on Tuesday, protested against the development of plots at Curtorim village, demanding immediate intervention of the Deputy Collector, Margao, TCP and the flying squad in the land development.
They have demanded to know why the Deputy Collector, Margao, has failed to act in the land development when an attempt is underway to destroy the lush green area.
Historian Prajal Sakhardande told the media at the site that it is indeed surprising that the authorities turned a blind eye to the land development in Curtorim village on a massive scale when the government has disclosed plans to declare Curtorim as a heritage village.
“After inspection of the site, questions come up why the authorities did not act to stop the cutting of the hill to develop the plots,” he said.
Activist Judith Almeida lamented that there politicians from Curtorim who are taking up issues in other parts of Goa, have failed miserably to take up the wanton destruction of the environment in their own village.
“The Deputy Collector Margao, the TCP officials and the flying squad should immediately intervene and stop all work at the site. A glance at the land development reveals that the authorities have failed to act on the complaints lodged by the locals,” Judith said.
Sevy Telles said that the silence of the people have ruined Goa and it is high time that the people wake and stand for the State. “The word destruction has been added by the bureaucrats and the ruling politicians. We ought to preserve our natural beauty and stand by it continuously,” she said.
Social activists from across the State, including Zarinha Da Cunha, Irish Passainha, Domnic Norohna, Ashish Kamat, Charles D’Silva, Succoro Miranda and others were present at the site.
