MARGAO
Congress workers under the banner of the South Goa district Congress Committee protested outside the State Bank of India, Margao branch against the Adani Group and demanded that Chief Minister Pramod Sawant cancel all the lease agreements and the facilities offered to Adani by the government.
Armed with placards and banners, Congress workers led by district president Savio D’Silva, former ZP member Moreno Rebello and others descended outside the SBI branch in the heart of the commercial capital and shouted slogans against Adani and the BJP government.
Congress leader Olencio Simoes said the time has come for the SBI to demand Adani repay all the loans issued to the corporate. He said the government should immediately withdraw from Adani the ports, railways and rivers handed over to the corporate on a platter.
Questioning SBI’s decision to advance a loan to Adani for the Queensland mining project, Olencio said this only to show the nexus between the corporate and the BJP-led government.
Referring to the justification given by the Union Finance Minister that nothing has happened vis-Ã -vis Adani, Olencio said this only goes to show the suit, boot culture that has come to play in the country.
Moreno Rebello questioned the rationale behind handing over the country’s wealth to the hands of a select few while accusing BJP of giving the country to the corporate.
Glen Lacerda reminded the Union Finance Minister that what has happened to Adani Group is not just a company affair when public money in LIC and SBI is at stake. He demanded to know why the Prime Minister is quite on the matter and why SEBI has not started an investigation into the issue.
District Congress president Savio D’Silva said the Congress is out on the streets to expose the BJP-led government and to ensure that the interests of investors in LIC and SBI are protected.
