The Congress on Tuesday demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his visit to Goa address a press conference in front of the Goan media, where he addresses the issues faced by Goenkars.
Spokesperson for the Congress Trajano D'Mello, addressing a press conference at the party headquarters in Panaji, said that the BJP in Goa needed to fix a press conference with the Goan press and the PM during his visit to the state today.
"They need to give an interview where the PM addresses issues like mining, CRZ notification, special status for Goa, and nationalisation of our rivers," said D'Mello.
"The Goa Assembly had passed a resolution on special status. Has the PM kept his promise? Where is the special status for Goa," demanded D'Mello.
He went on to point out that the manifesto released by the BJP at the Center didn't have the face of a single Goan leader.
"The meaning of this could be only one thing : that they don't have Goa on their minds. This means that all the laws they have amended in Goa is not for the benefit of Goa but to finish off Goa," said the spokesperson.
D'Mello also said that the BJP manifesto promised coastal security, which would only serve to trouble fishermen as the state already had a lot of security by way of the coast guard and the Indian Navy.
He said that Modi would have to answer why mining had not yet resumed in Goa.
"They promised resumption of mining activities in Goa, but it was all lies," said D'Mello, while also slamming Modi for using the country's soldiers to garner emotional sympathy for the party, when the "Chowkidaar" himself had been sleeping when Pulwama was attacked.
"He's going on emotional issues instead of taking up issues that the Congress is fighting the elections on," said D'Mello, adding, "He has started asking for votes at the cost of the lives of the jawans. See the frustration." ven one of these complaints.
