After Shah meet, Congman plans wedding at airport

CANACONA/PANAJIrThe Airport Director, Dabolim was caught on the wrong foot when a Congressman moved an application on Thursday to host his wedding reception at the airport premises to be held in September.rThe move comes days after BJP’s National President Amit Shah addressed a meeting within the premises of the Dabolim airport in violation of the Airport Authority of India rules.rCongress Secretary Janardhan Bhandari has sought permission from B S Negi for his wedding reception and has submitted a written application seeking to book the Dabolim Airport complex for his function. rSpeaking to The Goan, the ‘runway groom’ Bhandari disclosed, “I hail from Canacona and my fiancée is from Cuncolim. Both the families have been on the lookout for a wedding venue around Vasco. We have unanimously agreed that the airport is a perfect wedding venue. I have been engaged to my fiancée since three years and an airport wedding will be a dream come true.” rThe sarcasm-filled letter thanks and appreciates the bold decision of the airport director to permit the use of Goa Airport complex for private functions and for refraining from filing of FIR against BJP president Amit Shah, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar and other senior leaders of BJP for using the airport for BJP function on July 1 in contravention with the existing norms. rBhandari has stated that owing to his diverse political connections, his guest list will span across the country. However, hailing from a middle-class family with agricultural background, he claimed that he will not be able to bear the cost of accommodating them at hotels. “Since my guests will be coming from various states and landing at Dabolim Airport and as such I cannot afford to make their arrangements for their stay and travel. It would be nice if you could permit me to use Airport for my wedding reception in September 2017. I will fix the date as per availability of the Airport as per your convenience,” reads the letter. r The groom-to-be has also been gracious enough in offering to provide an undertaking that he will not compromise the security of the defense and navy installations at Goa Airport at any cost through photography or videography of wedding reception. He has also agreed to obtain permissions from the deputy collector for the use of sound system and a No Objection Certificate from Directorate of Fire and Emergency Services. rHe has further disclosed that he will inform his guests through the wedding invite not to park their vehicles at the airport owing to the Rs 100 fine slapped on any vehicle parked at the airport beyond five minutes.
