A resident of Agonda has been cheated of Rs 4.07 lakh after accessing an e-challan link sent to his mobile phone.
According to Canacona police, Relson Miranda received an e-challan link on September 19. Suspecting something fishy, he initially avoided opening it.
However, out of curiosity, Miranda opened the link on September 23, following which he received an OTP on his mobile phone.
Miranda told the police that he had not shared the OTP with anyone but received a text message from his bank informing him that Rs 4,07,001.77 had been deducted from his account.
On checking his mobile banking app, Miranda discovered that an unauthorised transaction of Rs 4,07,001.77 had been carried out without his knowledge, consent or authorisation.
Canacona police have registered a case under Section 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Further investigation is being conducted by Canacona PSI Babu Dessai.
