The second round of Covid-19 vaccination commenced at six sites across Goa. The drive will continue on Saturday with the aim of covering around 1,400 health workers in the two days.
Officers from the Directorate of Health Services disclosed that on Friday, 520 healthcare workers received a shot of ‘Covishield’ vaccine. The Health Department stated that no Adverse Events Following Immunisation (AEFI) have been reported from any of the centres.
Dr Jagadish A Cacodcar, the Nodal Officer for Covid vaccination at GMC, disclosed that around 200 beneficiaries were vaccinated at the two centers set up at Goa Medical College and Hospital in Bambolim, 62 at Community Health Centre in Valpoi, 57 at North Goa District Hospital, 59 at CHC Pernem, 48 at Vision Hospital and 94 at Victor Hospital in Margao.
It may be recalled that on January 16, 426 beneficiaries were vaccinated.
DHS has planned an inoculation programme for healthcare workers from government and private hospitals in coming days.
Meanwhile, an 85 year-old man from Nuvem was declared as the 758th victim of the infection in Goa. He succumbed to Covid-19 at GMC on Friday.
A total of 70 new cases of Covid-19 were detected from among the 1,694 samples tested in the last 24 hours raising the total confirmed cases in the state to 52,782. The active count stands at 854.
