MARGAO
The All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) workers on Tuesday held a dharna in front of the Old Collectorate building here to demand withdrawal of all the anti-labour Bills pending in the Lok Sabha.
The workers have also resolved to hold demonstration at the Azad Maidan in Panaji on the November 9 when lakhs of workers are expected to assembly at the Parliament street in New Delhi to demand roll back of the Legislations.
AITUC deputy General secretary Raju Mangueshkar told the media at the dharna that the three-day agitation called by workers under the banner of National Convention of Workers will be attended by employees working in the banks, railways and insurance federations to tell the government in one voice to withdraw the anti-labor legislations pending in the Lok Sabha.
"We have been opposing these legislations since the last two years, but the Modi government has not acceded to our demands. We had jail bharo agitations, strikes etc during the last two years, but the government is adamant in withdrawing the bills forcing the worker to march to Delhi on November 9", he said.
Pointing out that workers in the country had got their rights right from the time of the British era, Mangueshkar lamented that the Modi government is out to curtail their rights to appease the capitalists. "We are gearing up for the three-day major agitation from November 9-11. We have already distributed 50,000 leaflets across the state", Mangueshkar added.
