Criticising the Tourism Minister and Pernem MLA Manohar (Babu) Ajgaonkar for symbolically launching construction work after stopping it, Congressmen from Pernem have demanded action against Ajgaonkar.
“The act of Ajgaonkar is illicit as Ajgaonkar inaugurated the work knowing that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had already launched the work,” said Pernem Block Congress president Umesh Talvnekar.
It may be recalled that on March 10, Ajgaonkar abruptly halted the first phase of the construction work of proposed Mopa airport alleging that the company failed to give employment to the locals.
On March 12, Ajgaonkar symbolically launched the construction work stating that the company assured to fulfil his conditions.
Speaking during a press conference at Pernem, Talvnekar said Ajgaonkar should first clear his motives behind halting the work and later inaugurating it.
“If Ajgaonkar is saying he launched the work after the company assured to give jobs to locals, then he should reveal the job positions and number of local beneficiaries,” stated Talvnekar.
North Goa Congress General Secretary Subhash Kerkar said when public gives land to the government for a project, the affected land owners are liable for jobs in the project.
“What kinds of jobs is Ajgaonkar asking from the company,” he questioned.
“If there is any agreement made between the company regarding jobs then Ajgaonkar should hand over the appointment letters to the locals as soon as possible,” demanded Kerkar.
Advocate Murari Parab said Ajgaonkar has insulted the Prime Minister Narendra Modi by his actions.
“If any agreement is made with company regarding jobs then he should announce it to the public,” he stated.
