After a day-long uproar over the explosive revelation, Director General of Police Jaspal Singh finally broke his silence claiming the allegations against him are baseless.
"The allegations against me are baseless, invented and preposterous. If this were an officially shared document, I would certainly responded but I cannot react to speculative allegations that do not warrant a reaction from the highest authority," the DGP said replying to a question about why an SP had to issue a statement on the allegations made against the State's police chief.
Reacting to another allegation by suspended PI Prashal Desai, whose statement to Chief Secretary claimed that Singh threatened to implicate him in a false drugs case, the DGP denied this too.
"No DGP including me would ever level allegations or threats, as alleged in the speculative report, especially the planting of drugs," he added. Singh also questioned the emergence of such a statement report.
He further denied his or department's links with accused Pooja Sharma. "Her lawyer had only once come to the headquarters with a complaint of land grabbing, and it is being investigated by the SIT constituted for Land Grab," he added.
"I have had a long association with Goa. I started my career here as ASP in Goa, then SP, Inspector General of Police, and now DGP. I am well-versed with the social culture of Goa and have a strong bond and connection with the police force," the DGP further said.
