Buoyed by the success of the INDI Alliance experiment for the second time in Goa, Aam Aadmi Party chief Amit Palekar said the alliance of Opposition parties is a way forward to avert a split in the 67 per cent opposition vote to dislodge the BJP in the 2027 Assembly election.
Conceding that stitching alliances is not a bed of roses, Palekar, however, said unless the opposition parties unite and make sacrifices, the future generations will not forgive them for the destruction of Goa.
“The BJP has won the election because the 67 per cent vote split amongst the opposition parties. The recent Lok Sabha election and the Benaulim ZP bye-poll have shown that unity of Opposition can checkmate the BJP and their proxy candidates”, Palekar said.
Asked whether it’s possible for the INDI Alliance to continue the experiment in 2027 election, Palekar shot back, “The AAP has a presence in all the constituencies. So is the Congress party. The Goa Forward is strong in certain constituencies. We will have to sit together and discuss on seat sharing,” he said.
He added: In the Lok Sabha polls, the AAP had made a sacrifice by supporting the Congress. In the by-poll, the Congress conceded the seat to AAP. We have to adjust and make compromises. We will have to do sacrifices in the larger interest of Goa and to save the people”.
Saying INDI Alliance is a way forward, Palekar said the by-poll result has finished Churchill ka Parivar, saying Churchill has been hobnobbing with the BJP, adding that the election result is a clear message to the BJP that the people will not allow division of votes through its allies.
