Almeida makes pitstop at Margao bus stand, assures to improve ‘pathetic’ conditions

Unsanitary conditions at the KTC bus stand, lack of hygiene at the canteen and restrooms welcomed KTC chairman Carlos Almeida at Margao KTC depot on Tuesday, even as Carlos sought to reassure the KTC employees that the government may come out with a time-frame to build a new bus stand at Margao.

The KTC chairman also promised to introduce a direct Panaji-Margao bus service from Wednesday, which will leave at 5.45 pm from the Panaji ferry, following complaints from Margao-bound passengers that there’s no bus service along the route during late evenings.
Carlos was visibly moved after coming across pathetic conditions in the restrooms meant for drivers and conductors, as well as the ill-equipped canteen and toilets. “I have witnessed first-hand the unsanitary and unhygienic conditions at the KTC bus stand. Things will improve before my next visit to the bus stand,” he said.
Stating that he has visited Margao KTC bus stand to have an interaction with the KTC employees, including drivers and conductors, Carlos assured the staff that things will not remain the same in the coming days. In fact, he has promised the staff that he would get the KTC Managing Director and other staff during his next visit along with him to resolve all pending issues and grievances.
During his brief address, the KTC chairman said the government will take a call on the construction of a new bus stand for Margao within the next three months. He sought cooperation from the staff and employees for smooth working of the corporation, making a humble plea to the employees to treat KTC as their very own.
Replying to a question whether the KTC has any plans to introduce shuttle service a la the Dabolim airport-Calangute route, Carlos said the bus service has been started following a request from the Tourism department, adding that the KTC will not shy away from introducing buses on other routes if requested.
