The teacher of Balram Residential School at Amone-Poinguinim, who has been accused of thrashing a student in the school for allegedly failing to participate in a cleanliness driver on Monday has been untraceable but filed an anticipatory bail application before the Goa Children’s Court.

According to Canacona PI Chandrakant Gawas, the accused teacher has switched-off his mobile and has not been found anywhere in Canacona for the second day.

Police have been taking rounds to his residence and elsewhere in search of the teacher, after an FIR was registered against him following a complaint from the mother of the 13-year old student.

Police said the teacher had switched off his mobile phone and his last known mobile location have not yielded any results.

“The accused teacher is presently absconding and not found anywhere. However, the teacher has applied for anticipatory bail, and his application will come up for hearing at Goa Children’s Court on Thursday morning. The Investigating Officer PSI Ajit Velip will represent the police in court,” said Canacona PI Gawas.

PI Gawas further informed that police, as part of investigations, have recorded the statements of school teachers and others besides the management of the Shree Balram Education Society.

While the School Headmistress Savita Tawadkar and Founder Chairman Ramesh Tawadkar are out of station, efforts to contact Shree Balram Education Society Chairman Ankush Gaonkar were not successful.

Sources have, however, said the management is all in favour of necessary action against the teacher for allegedly thrashing the student, who continues to receive treatment at the South Goa District Hospital at Margao.
