Anti Narcotics Cell of Goa Police ran a close surveillance for 10 months on the provisional store operated by the family of sisters Yogita (26) and Chaitali Naik (23) arrested with Rs 16 lakh worth narcotics on Tuesday.
The sisters, who were arrested possessing 14 kg ganja and 20 gm MDMA, have been remanded to two days police custody by a Mapusa Court. The narcotic substances were recovered from their general store, which is attached to their residence at Corlim, Mapusa. Sources from ANC have disclosed that the duo had a close brush with the anti-narcotic sleuths last year on November 18, 2016, when a raid was conducted at the shop.
ANC had then arrested two employees Sahil Abdul Nadal (19) and Imam Dadapir Dodamani (20) with 1.4 kg ganja approximately worth Rs one lakh. While Nadal was found in possession of 1.375 kg of suspected ganja, a mobile phone and cash amount of Rs 670, Dodamani was caught with 165 gms of suspected ganja, a mobile phone and Rs 2,980.
"The Naik family had then claimed that none of them, including the daughters, had an inkling of what these employees were using the premises for. They had feigned ignorance of how the two employees had procured the drugs and whom they were selling it to. But we have had that shop on our radar since then," a highly placed source from ANC informed.
Meanwhile, it was learnt that the investigating team probing this matter is now attempting to trace the source of the huge quantities of drugs found at the store.
