Union Minister of State for Railways Suresh Angadi has urged Goans to co-operate with the railway authorities in implementing railway double-tracking project in Goa, which is taken up by the Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd.
He was speaking at a news conference in Belagavi on Friday. He was responding to Cortalim MLA Alina Saldanha’s stiff opposition to the implementation of the double-tracking of the Margao-Kulem stretch of the South Western Railways.
“MLA Alina needs to cooperate with the authorities in implementing the project as doubling of the railway track would support the swift movement of trains and contribute to the overall development of Goa,” he ascertained, urging people of Goa to extend their support to the ongoing doubling project.
It may be recalled that Union Minister Angadi after assuming charge of railways had visited Goa for the launch of Vasco-Belagavi weekend passenger special had told people of Goa that more trains would be introduced between Goa and other parts of India improving the rail connectivity of the state with Central and Southern India. However, when he was met with opposition from MLA Alina Saldanha and others he had warned of withdrawing the doubling project in case people do not co-operate.
Meanwhile, he has also urged citizens to observe restraint regarding the Citizen Amendment Act (CAA) as it doesn’t harm any citizens in the nation and that the opposition parties are misleading the nation. “CAA is safeguarding the Hindus and minorities like Christians, Jains, Sikhs, who had to leave the Muslim countries like Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh due to the oppression meted out to them by those countries,” Angadi said urging people across all states to maintain peace.
