Anjuna Police rescued a man who was stuffed in a sack and dumped near a construction site at Assagao early morning on Saturday.
The rescued man, Mohammad Yusuf, is allegedly one of the accused involved in the "rice puller" scam, in which a Peddem-based builder Tarak Arolkar, who was in the news in a kidnapping case, is also embroiled.
In the past, Bijapur Police had arrested Yusuf in the "rice puller" scam.
Police informed that at around 3.15 am they rushed to the spot and rescued the man after receiving a call from a fish seller, Santosh Jadhav, who saw some persons dumping a "bundle" at the site.
The rescued man was first rushed to the North Goa District Hospital in Mapusa, from where he was shifted to Goa Medical College, Bambolim.
Anjuna Police informed that the man was put in a bag used to pack rice and was naked.
"There were no evidence of any external injuries to the man but he appeared shaken and scared," police sources said.
It may be recalled on September 16, a Peddem-based builder Tarak Arolkar had complained to Mapusa Police that he was kidnapped by unknown persons at Nipani.
In his complaint Arolkar had named Yusuf of making a call to him, which subsequently led to his kidnapping. Arolkar's driver was also kidnapped and was missing for some days after the incident.
The case was subsequently transferred to Nipani rural police, who detained Arolkar for at least a week at Nipani. Nipani police had managed to rescue Arolkar's driver.
Sources said Nipani Police had discharged Arolkar on September 25 and coincidentally on September 27 Yusuf's wife lodged a missing report of her husband on September 27.
"Yusuf in a statement has said that he was dumped at the Assagao site by some people from Bijapur," Anjuna PI, Rahul Parab said.
"It appears Yusuf is involved in the case concerning the involvement of Tarak Arolkar. We don't have much information about the case since Bijapur Police are investigating it. Bijapur Police Inspector along with Yusuf's wife are on the way to Goa and they will investigate the case further," Anjuna PI added.
