Another house illegally built by encroaching on the land earmarked by the government for a multi-faith cemetery at Khadpawada in Cunchelim-Mapusa, was demolished by the Bardez Deputy Collector’s office on Thursday.
The administration had demolished 32 of the 36 illegal houses at the site on November 12, 2024. Four persons had filed a petition before the Bombay High Court at Goa against this action.
However, the court had ordered the petitioners concerned to demolish the houses on their own within six weeks. Accordingly, the parties concerned had also given an undertaking in the court.
After that, three of them sought more time from the court to demolish the houses. One house was demolished on Thursday with the help of a JCB through the Deputy Collector’s office.
A total of 36 houses were illegally built by encroaching on about 30,000 sq. mtrs of government land which had been earmarked for a multi-faith cemetery.
