Anti-jetty policy rally: Cops at Borim bridge remain spectators

MARGAO

Both the Borim and Loutolim side of the Borim bridge resembled a fortress as the police mobilised force in strength to tackle any law and order situation arising out of the anti-jetty policy 2022 rally on Sunday noon.

The Maina Curtorim police mobilised its full force on the Loutolim side of the Borim bridge. Across the bridge at Borim, Ponda DySP C L Patil was personally monitoring the situation to ensure the rally does not take place when the district Magistrate rejected the permission.

The police also roped in the traffic police in strength, indicating that the men-in-uniform were all geared up to handle the situation. A lady executive Magistrate was also posed at the Borim bridge as a precautionary measure.

The police, however, stood as mere spectators as the vehicles carrying the anti-jetty policy protestors did not travel together and neither did they display any banners and posters on their vehicles or use microphones.

When a couple of vehicles reached the Borim bridge from the South, the vehicles with the protestors just zoomed past the Goa police and the traffic police before crossing the bridge. Sources said there was no ground for the men-in-uniform to stop the vehicles since they were like any other normal vehicle plying on the road sans any banners, microphones or posters.

While the Indian Tricolour and black flags could be seen flying atop the vehicles when the rally was passing on the Chinchinim-Navelim stretch on the NH-66, the flags disappeared from the vehicles when they approached the Borim bridge.
