Archdiocese marks Jubilee of Social Apostolate

The Social Apostolate Bodies of the Archdiocese of Goa and Daman celebrated the Jubilee of the Social Apostolate with a solemn Thanksgiving Mass on 7 September at the St Vaz Spiritual Renewal Centre, Old Goa, led by Archbishop Filipe Neri Cardinal Ferrão.

The Mass was concelebrated by Fr Henry Falcão, Fr Maverick Fernandes, Fr Savio Fernandes, Fr Joaquim Rebelo SFX, Fr Walter D’Souza, and Fr George Nandiyala SFX.

In his homily on the theme “Upholding Human Dignity: Let Us Become Apostles of Hope in Society”, Cardinal Ferrão urged the faithful to remain rooted in Jesus and to continue the mission of promoting human dignity. He reminded all to be caring, joyful in service, and compassionate, even to those who wrong them. Referring to Blessed Carlo Acutis and Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati, he praised their devotion to the Eucharist and discipleship, stressing that true disciples bring hope to society.

After the Mass, a fellowship programme was held, where religious congregations involved in social ministry were felicitated. Cardinal Ferrão commended their service, along with Caritas Goa and other institutions, calling them “the face of the Social Apostolate of the Church in Goa.” He emphasised that God’s image is imprinted on every person and urged all to uphold human dignity, reach out to the needy, and celebrate diversity as a reflection of God’s richness.

He called on the faithful to embrace synodal discipleship through forgiveness and unity, noting that social apostolate demands dedication and self-sacrifice.

The gathering was welcomed by Fr Savio Fernandes, and the fellowship programme, anchored by Ashton Souza, featured games and presentations by religious congregations.
