Arrogance of BJP put ECI under pressure: Mapusa AAP
MAPUSA
The Aam Aadmi Party's Mapusa candidate Shraddha Khalap on Thursday said the Election Commission of India (ECI) had done a good job, but said the action of some officials clearly exhibited the arrogance of the party in power that put pressure on ECI officials.
“Overall, the ECI has performed very well in this election. The observers and the Flying Squad would follow us at every corner and pick at small details, clearly showing that they were acting under pressure of the ruling party,” Khalap said.
The AAP Mapusa candidate was addressing a news conference in Mapusa after curtains came down on the public campaigning for the February 4 assembly polls.
Speaking further, she said BJP clearly felt the heat of the opposition parties and tried its best to scuttle the campaign of AAP on many occasions.
She said the Mapusa unit of AAP had around 600 registered volunteers and were die-hard supporters of the party.
“It was part of our strategy not to expose all our volunteers as the party in power was using all tricks in the book to subjugate and terrorize our volunteers,” she said, when questioned that most of her workers were outstation volunteers.
She said the election campaign had taught her a lot and gave insight to the problems of the people living in the city.
“Wherever we went, people poured their problems to us. They have now found a voice through us,” the AAP candidate said.
Party’s Mapusa coordinator Yogesh Kelkar said AAP campaign in Mapusa had begun around a year back.
“We have been moving around door-to-door and interacting with the people. We even had a number of corner meetings in order to draft our manifesto,” Kelkar said.
He said consistency of the AAP campaign will help the party to emerge victorious at the hustings.
