Several NGOs and private agencies have been accused of taking huge money from employees, in order to get them appointed to various government departments in Karnataka.
Information sought under RTI has revealed that most employees who got jobs through the process of outsourcing in various government departments are losing a big chunk of their salaries to such NGOs and agencies.
Each employee appointed in a government department on contract basis through an outside agency is supposed to be paid a minimum monthly salary of Rs 10,520, as per government norms.
According to RTI activist, Bheemappa Gadad from Belagavi, the NGOs and other private agencies which got such employees appointed are involved in pocketing the amount set aside for insurance and provident fund in every employees basic salary.
Speaking to media persons, Gadad said usually, a part of every employee's salary is supposed to be deducted for insurance and provident fund compulsorily, but it is not the case of the contract employees.
“Furnishing proof of how most employees appointed on contract basis are being cheated by agencies, I have demanded with the government to file a criminal case against them to stop the large scale loot,” Gadad said.
He further said to avoid employees who are appointed on contract basis directly by the government from approaching the courts to get their jobs regularised, the government has been getting employees to many posts appointed through outside contracts in the state at regular intervals.
“A large number of employees in many departments are working on contract basis with the help of different agencies in the state,” he said.
“Many NGOs and agencies, which are providing employment to the job-seekers, are being run by relatives of influential politicians and leaders in the state,” Gadad said, accusing them of fleecing innocent job-seekers of huge money.
He alleged that due to their greed for money, the employees joining for jobs are not even getting the minimum salaries which they deserve.
“A large number of employees in NGOs are affected, hence the government should conduct an investigation to find out which agencies are involved in such illegal activities and then get criminal cases filed against them,” Gadad demanded.
