The Colva gram sabha on Sunday resolved to ask the Town and Country Planning department to reduce the width of the Sernabatim road from 15 meters to Six meters.
The gram sabha meeting chaired by Sarpanch Anthony Fernandez discussed a host of issues including the health centre, football ground, construction of panchayat ghar etc.
Agitated gram sabha members raised the issue of the ongoing beautification works carried out in the village under the Colva circuit beautification plan.
They pointed out that the work on footpaths is not being carried out with strong foundation and urged the panchayat to take up the issue with the consultant.
Sarpanch Anthony replied saying that the panchayat has not been taken into confidence by the agencies, but has assured the members to write to the consultant engaged by the GTDC to oversee the work.
On the Health centre, members demanded that the proposed Health centre mooted by local MLA Churchill Alemao should be set up at Colva. In this connection, the gram sabha resolved to lead a delegation to the MLA to get the health centre to Colva.
Members also raised the issue over the controversial sewage treatment plant at Colva demanding to know whether the government has communicated any decision on the demand by the villagers opposing discharge of the treated water in the sea.
Some of the members also disclosed plans to file a PIL in the High Court if the government does not change its plan of releasing the treated sewage into the Arabian Sea.
Sarpanch Anthony told the media that the Gram Panchayat Development Plan (GPDP) was placed before the gram sabha, wherein the plan received a nod from the members.
Gram sabha also witnessed a request from some members to discontinue Sunday as a working day for the Panchayat body.
Sarpanch Anthony, however, said that since it has been a long tradition that Sunday has been a working day to facilitate officer goers to get their work done from the panchayat on Sundays, he would write to the Parish Priest to inform the Parishioners about the proposal and get their inputs.
On the reduction of the width of the Sernabatim road, the Sarpanch informed that since the TCP has withdrawn the road shown at the Colva Church under section 16-B, some gram sabha members demanded that the 15 meter shown at Sernabatim should be rectified and made
to six meters.
