Starting with the formation of farm producers organisations, the Canacona Zonal Agriculture Office (ZAO) has conducted as many as 21 different activities on Atmanirbhar Bharat, Swayampurna Goa, including awareness, technical guidance, Krishi Card Melava and training on Vermicomposting since November.
The Canacona ZAO Kirtiraj Naikgaunkar initially held programmes for farm producers organisations in jaggery at Gaondongrim, Cotigao and Gulem-Shisthal from November 5 to 7, while a fourth one was conducted at Ziltawadi-Gaondondrim on November 18th. This has benefited over 550 farmers from all over Canacona taluka.
Naikgaunkar then held awareness camps on schemes of agriculture department and ATMA activities at Shristhal, Loliem-Polem, Khola and Galgibaga, Gaondongrim, Poinguinim, Agonda and Shristhal.
“These awareness camps gave in-depth knowledge and information of various government schemes on agriculture and information on how one can avail government assistance in becoming Atmanirbhar,” said Naikgaunkar.
Farm producers organizations for the famous Canacona chillies were formed at Paryemoll, Mollorem, Kudai, Popoye-Dando and Matvemoll, all in Khola village for the benefit of 130 chilli producers.
A special programme was also conducted to provide technical guidance for paddy transplantation at Poinguinim for the benefit of 30 farmers.
Elsewhere, 55 farmers benefited from two Krishi Card camps at Loliem and Galgibaga-Poinguinim.
A training for over 20 farmers was conducted on vermicomposting at the Government higher secondary school in Mastimoll.
According to ZAO Canacona Kirtiraj Naikgaunkar, a new paddy field was brought under cultivation at Colsar-Galgibaga after a gap of over 20 years.
The Canacona ZAO also observed the World Soil Day at its Chaudi office on December 5.
Dy Speaker and Canacona MLA Isidore Fernandes also attended a few of these awareness programmes.
