An audio conversation between a visibly upset Verna Sarpanch Tony Da Costa and Nuvem MLA Wilfred D’Sa went viral on social media, with the sarpanch warning D’Sa of political consequences over his decision to join the BJP without taking the locals into

confidence.

While admitting that he had the conversation with D’Sa, Da Costa insisted he had not leaked the audio clip and was unsure how it had gone on social media.

During the conversation, an emotional and upset Da Costa asked the Nuvem MLA as to why Verna residents were not taken into confidence

before he had decided to join the BJP.

“I wonder why you have not called me or Verna people before taking such a drastic decision. If you were in the opposition and could not carry out development, there was at least a hope that you could win the elections. But now, there is no chance that you can win an election in the future,” said Da Costa.

“You should have never taken this decision. Now that you have decided, you should resign and go to any party or even BJP and see for yourself whether you stand a chance again. You won’t get elected even if you re-contest on the Congress ticket,” warned the Verna sarpanch during the conversation.

Sources at the Verna Panchayat said Da Costa was shocked to hear the news that D’Sa along with nine other Congress MLAs had decided to merge with the BJP.

Some sources said an emotional Da Costa left the office and went to an unknown place, where he called on D’Sa requesting him to return to Goa.

The audio clip evoked a lot of reactions and many netizens appreciated Da Costa for his frank talk with Nuvem MLA Wilfred D’Sa.

When contacted, Da Costa confirmed that the audio clip was not fabricated and that he had actually called on D’Sa after feeling hurt and deserted by the Nuvem MLA.

Da Costa was, however, insisted that he had not leaked the audio clip and was unsure how the conversation between him and D’Sa had gone viral on social media.

“I am out of station but several people have been calling me to enquire about the recorded conversation which has gone viral on social media,” said Da Costa.
