Authorities left in the dark over waterlogging at Comba subway

MARGAO

There’s no letup in the waterlogging inside the Comba subway, with the authorities handling sewerage groping in the dark over the source of the water, whether sewage or otherwise that finds its way into the road underpass.

With no solution forthcoming from the Sewerage Infrastructure Development Corporation of Goa Ltd (SIDCGL) and the PWD, Sewerage despite two joint inspections carried out by officials along with Margao MLA Digambar Kamat, the PWD, roads have sent a reminder to the two agencies to resolve the issue at the earliest.

For, the PWD, roads cannot execute the job of repairing the subway floor with waterlogging rampant inside. PWD Executive Engineer, roads, Prasad Panandikar is believed to have sent a reminder to the SIDCGL and the PWD, sewerage about the waterlogging and the need to ensure the seepage is plugged at the earliest to carry out the floor repair work.

Sources informed that the Margao MLA is believed to have insisted on the early repairs to the subway floor, with the uneven surface causing nightmares for motorists.

The Comba subway is the only available alternative left for motorists and school students when the Comba railway crossing is closed for vehicular traffic for the trains to run on the tracks. With the number of trains running on the Margao railway tracks touching a whopping 70 trains on any given day, the Margao MLA is believed to have insisted on the repair at the earliest.

Both the SIDCGL and the PWD, sewerage maintained that the water that had found its way into the subway is sewage. The two agencies tried to push the buck on the water body located near Damodar college. When the media had drawn the attention of PWD Minister Nilesh Cabral to the waterlogging, he promised to inspect the site with senior SIDCGL and PWD, sewerage.
