VALPOI
The Bicholim Traffic Police Cell held a road safety awareness drive in Valpoi to educate motorists about following traffic rules. The drive started at Hatwada Junction and later continued in other parts of the town.
As Tuesday is the weekly market day in Valpoi, the campaign saw a good response from the public.
During the programme, two-wheeler riders were told about traffic rules, safe riding methods and precautions to avoid accidents. Pamphlets on road safety were also handed out while police interacted with motorists.
Police Inspector Chandrakant Gawas said similar drives will be organised in other places in the coming days and appealed to people to cooperate.
He said road safety is not only the duty of the police but of every citizen.
“While driving, people must avoid negligence and careless behaviour for their own safety and for others. Many serious accidents happen because helmets are not worn. Wearing a helmet is not just about obeying the law, it can save lives. Following traffic rules can help reduce the number of accidents,” he said.
He added that even though the police are doing their work, accidents cannot be reduced without support from all sections of society.
