The last four days incessant rains may have brought overall deficit in the State down, but it has also wreaked havoc on city roads.
The already bad roads in Mapusa turned worse after the spell of heavy rain the city received in the last couple of days.
These include main arterial roads such as road near the Syndicate Bank, the market road opposite Canara Bank, road opposite the government complex and further along Morod, road near old Asilo hospital, road from Joao Menezes Pharmacy up to police station and

Commuters and motorists passing through these roads have been hit hard due to the numerous potholes and craters on these roads.
Sachin, who drives a passenger auto-rickshaw, said the roads in Mapusa were so poor that he has developed back problems driving his auto for the last two years.
"In many areas, the road surfaces have completely worn out while large potholes have erupted at many other places. I am anxious that my auto-rickshaw may overturn in one of these potholes," he remarked.
The situation was no different in other areas of Mapusa like Khorlim and Ansabhat, where the condition of roads was similar if not worse.
To a large extent, the ongoing sewerage work has turned the city roads into a real nightmare. At many places, the area around the soak pits, placed in the middle of the roads, have sunk in creating another dangerous hazard.
Rohan Kavlekar, Chairperson of Mapusa Municipal Council, said the patchwork exercise will begin within a couple of days.
"The pothole filling work will be taken up as emergency work on priority. I have instructed the JICA personnel, responsible for sewerage work, to take up the patchwork on top priority," Kavlekar said. It remains to be seen how the patchwork exercise will hold up till the monsoon season ends.
