MARGAO

The South Goa Sessions Court on Wednesday has granted bail to Parshuram Doranahalli, a resident of Vijayapur district, Karnataka who was arrested by the Margao police the decade old Aquem murder case.

Sessions Judge B P Deshpande granted bail to the accused on a personal bond of Rs 50,000 with one identical surety. The accused was earlier arrested by the Margao police for murder after skeletal remains of a male person were unearthed at Aquem earlier this month.

The Margao police had opposed the bail application of the accused on grounds that he does not deserve bail as there are chances that, if release on bail, the applicant can threaten the witnesses.

The Margao police had submitted that some of the witnesses recorded are from the native village of the accused.

Similarly, the police had contended that main witness also hail from the native village of the accused and therefore the possibility of threatening the witnesses cannot be ruled out.

The police had further contended that since the accused is not from Goa, he will certainly jump bail as a result of which he will not be available for the purpose of trial, damaging the prosecution case.
