The hearing on the bail applications filed by brothers Gaurav and Saurav Luthra, accused in connection with the Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub fire, was adjourned to January 13 by the court on Wednesday.

The Luthra brothers, who are among the key accused in the case, were arrested following the devastating fire that broke out at the Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub on December 6.

The blaze claimed the lives of 25 people and left several others injured, triggering widespread outrage and raising serious questions over fire safety compliance at nightlife establishments in the coastal belt.

According to the prosecution, preliminary investigations revealed gross violations of fire safety norms at the nightclub, including the absence of mandatory fire clearances and inadequate emergency exits.

The incident prompted the State government to order a crackdown on nightclubs and bars operating without proper licences and safety approvals.

During the hearing, the defence sought bail for the accused, while the prosecution opposed the plea, citing the gravity of the offence and the ongoing investigation.

The court, however, deferred the matter and scheduled the next hearing for January 13.

The tragic incident has since become a flashpoint in the debate over regulatory lapses and accountability in the functioning of high-footfall entertainment venues.
