Baina shops sealed for not having trade licence

Baina shops sealed for not having trade licence

VASCO

As part of its drive to seal commercial establishments operating illegally, the Mormugao Municipal Council sealed six shops in Baina for operating without a valid trade licence on Tuesday.

MMC Chief Officer Agnelo Fernandes, who is on a 15-day leave, had recently appealed to establishments and people to come forward to pay their dues, failing which names of defaulters would be published in the press and at prominent places.

However, Johnson Fernandes, who is holding additional charge as MMC chief officer, has gone a step ahead by sealing establishments operating without trade licenses or have expired trade licenses.

According to sources, MMC has begun a massive drive to crackdown on shops operating without trade licenses.

“During a recent inspection, it was noticed that 50 per cent of shops were operating without a trade licence and this prompted Fernandes to begin the drive to seal the shops,” said a source.

Sources further revealed that while four shops were sealed on Friday, six shops were sealed on Tuesday.

Fernandes has warned the drive will continue and appealed to shop owners to fall in line.

Fernandes has also appealed to public to pay their house tax and warned that people would be held responsible if MMC begins disconnection of water and electrical connections of defaulters.
