Balram Charitable Trust to build 2 houses for Wayanad victims

CANACONA

A team of five members from the Balram Charitable Trust will reach Wayanad in preparation for the construction of two houses under the ambitious ‘Shram-Dham’ initiative of Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar for two affected families of the devastating landslide in Wayanad-Kerala.

The team in coordination with the volunteers of Seva Bharati and RSS will carry out the identification of two houses to be built and carry out line-measurements to ready the same for foundation laying ceremony

By mid-April, Tawadkar alongwith 50 of his dedicated Shram-Dham warriors will join the local outfits Seva Bharati and RSS volunteers, and begin construction work after holding a foundation stone laying ceremony.

In an informal chat with reporters in his Canacona office, Tawadkar informed that only two houses will initially be taken up for construction with the Shram-Dham concept of Balram Charitable Trust going national in Kerala.

“There is a need to construct more than 250 houses which were destroyed in the devastating Wayanad landslide. Presently, we are building only two houses for two affected families in Wayanad,” said Tawadkar.

“Seva Bharati and RSS volunteers are helping us locally to complete these two houses, where our dedicated Shram-Dham warriors will take up the works on war-footing after a brief foundation stone laying ceremony is held in the second week of April.”

During his first-time visit to Wayanad along with Kerala Governor Rajendra Arlekar, Tawadkar visited and interacted with the local tribals of Chunda village in Vythiri of Wayanad.

It may be recalled that Tawadkar during the assembly session last year had said his Balaram Charitable Trust would work along with 200 volunteers to construct 10 houses in the landslide-affected areas of Wayanad.

According to Tawadkar, his Shram-Dham concept has already built over 50 houses in Goa.

The 2024 Wayanad landslides were a series of landslides that occurred in Wayanad district in the early hours of July 30, 2024.

The were reports of 254 fatalities, 397 injuries and 118 people missing. More than 1,555 houses and other buildings were destroyed or damaged.
