In what could be termed as a special moment for the Archdiocese of Bangalore, Archbishop of Bangalore Peter Machado met Pope Leo XIV during a general audience at St Peter’s Square in the Vatican.
This sacred meeting symbolised the living bond between the local Indian Church and the Universal Church.
Standing before thousands of faithful, Archbishop Machado represented the love, prayers, and unity of the Catholic community of Bangaluru.
The Holy Father welcomed him with pastoral warmth and grace, affirming the universality of the Church — transcending borders, languages, and traditions — but rooted in one Gospel. “Pope Leo XIV, known for his gentle strength and spiritual depth, embarks on his pontificate guided by the Holy Spirit. This historic encounter has strengthened ties and deepened the sense of belonging among Indian Catholics to the wider mission of the global Church,” Archbishop Machado said.
The faithful of Bengaluru are now called to renew their commitment to the Church’s mission under the guidance of the Holy Spirit and the leadership of Pope Leo XIV.
