Barring Fatorda, Margao police sub-division sees change in guard

MARGAO
Ahead of the 2022 Assembly election, police stations in Margao police sub-division witnessed a change of guard.

Barring Fatorda police station, the remaining police stations in the sub-division, including Margao, Maina-Curtorim, Cuncolim and Colva have new in-charges, but who had in the past worked as police officers in different capacities.

In fact, all the newly-posted police officers have assumed charge of office since the transfers came last week. While PI Sagar Ekoskar has returned back to head the Maina-Curtorim Police Station, PI Gurudas Kadam has come back at the helm of Cuncolim police station after a short break.

Colva police station is now being headed by PI Tukaram Chawan, who had earlier worked as a police sub-inspector at the police station.

The all-important Margao police station is now being headed by PI Jitendra Naik in place of Sachin Narvekar, who had presided over the police station for nearly two years.

Almost all the PIs transferred at the police stations at the Margao police sub-division are now new to their latest postings. Sources say the Margao police station is not new for PI Naik after having been posted at the police station during his stint as a constable and then as a police sub-inspector.

Similarly, PI Sagar Ekoskar had held the reigns of the Maina Curtorim police station last year before PI Shivram Vaingankar was posted at the police station.

The lone exception in the transfers of police inspectors and police station in-charges in Margao police division is Fatorda police station in-charge, PI Kapil Nayak.

PI Kapil has been heading the Fatorda police station since the time Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai fell out of the BJP-led government in 2019.

Sources said the government has effected the transfers of the police inspectors ahead of the 2022 Assembly election. Sources say the State administration may go for another round of transfers on the eve of the 2022 polls.
