The work of beautification of Saligao church Mae de Deus and its surrounding is going on in full swing and it will be completed by November 26.

While speaking to The Goan, Saligao MLA Jayesh Salgaokar mentioned that Mae de Deus church is a pride of Saligao villagers. This is one of the oldest church of Goa and is well known for its neo-gothic style of Architecture .

"The work of beatification of the Mae de dues church and its surrounding is being done by Goa Tourism Development Corporation by spending Rs 2.61 crores. This cost includes repairs and painting of the church, electrification of the church, and construction of new platform for conducting programmes and beatification of its surroundings," he added.

Not only the Indian tourists but also foreign tourists visit this church because of its unique architecture. 

"The beautification of the church will further enhance its beauty and more tourists will visit this church after its beautification. The villagers were demanding persistently for the beautification of this church and the widening of the approach road. The work of widening of the approach road has already begun," Salgaonkar added.

"Both these long pending demands of the residents of Saligao has now been fulfilled. The tourist season has begun and the tourists will have the opportunity to see the new look of the church on November 26," said Salgaonkar.
