MARGAO
On the eve of the Congress Block meeting at Benaulim scheduled to be attended by party observers and state leaders on Sunday, Mickky Pacheco on Saturday announced his candidature for the Benaulim seat on Congress ticket, even ruling out the possibility of the Congress entering into alliances with like-minded parties.
That’s not all. Even as a host of candidates, including social activist Gina Pereria, has set eyes for Benaulim seat, presently held by NCP, Mickky said his voters know that he is the only capable candidate who can defeat Churchill Alemao.
Mickky further said that the leadership in Delhi has promised to nominate him for the Benaulim seat and the campaign will start from next week after the Sunday meeting.
Mickky’s announcement assumes significance and comes against the backdrop of the persistent stand adopted by the Congress leadership that the issue of alliances with like-minded parties will be decided at a later stage and that the party will take a call on the candidates at the right time.
Addressing the media, Mickky gave a call to his workers, supporters and well-wishers, besides Congress workers to attend the Benaulim block meeting at Maria hall on Sunday evening.
To a question, he said the NCP and Aam Aadmi Party are not a force in Benaulim, promising to expose the two parties at the right time. He took a dig at the NCP MLA, saying he has been supporting the BJP for the last four years and half.
Asked to comment on social media reports that he is an outsider in Benaulim, Mickky shot back saying only 2-3 people are spreading these reports. “Such reports do not disturb me since the people of Benaulim expect me to defeat the sitting MLA”, he added.
TMC will benefit, says
Cong’s new member
MARGAO: Mickky claimed that the entry of TMC will benefit the BJP in the ensuing polls, saying Luizinho Faleiro has only taken Congress workers with him, while not touching the BJP. “Has Faleiro taken any BJP workers with him into the TMC”, he questioned, while saying the Congress will give a transparent government to the people of Goa in 2022.
