PONDA
Former Sanvordem MLA Ganesh Gaonkar said he was willing to contest the next assembly polls and has started preparations in this regard.
"I was neutral in the recent Zilla Panchayat polls. Some, however, accused me of being involved in anti-party work but the same people had worked against me during the 2017 elections,” said Gaonkar, while interacting with reporters in Ponda on Monday.
He clarified that his closeness with the MGP is only because of his friendship with MGP leader Sudin Dhavlikar and appealed to people not to misunderstand it as political affiliation.
"Whatever development happened in Sanvordem constituency happened only during my tenure as an MLA. The people of Sanvordem constituency want me to represent them again," he added.
Commenting on the controversy surrounding the Tamnar project at Mollem, Gaonkar said safeguarding of environment is also important.
"It is equally important to think about the consequences that these projects will have on nature. I believe that if authorities take people into confidence about such projects well in advance and assure them that there will be no harm to the environment, people will not oppose such projects,” Gaonkar added.
Meanwhile, Gaonkar has been awarded an honorary doctorate from the Jeeva Theological Open University, Chennai, for his contribution in the field of education.
The honorary doctorate was awarded to Gaonkar on December 19.
