KLES Dr Prabhakar Kore Hospital & Medical Research Centre has reached a milestone in cardiac care with the successful implant of the TRIA Mitral Valve ” the world’s first approved polymer heart valve. The surgery was led by Dr Mohan D Gan, Head of the CVTS Department at JNMC Medical College and Senior Cardiothoracic Surgeon.
The TRIA valve, developed by US-based Foldax and made in India by Dolphin Life Science, is seen as a breakthrough, especially for patients with rheumatic heart disease. It is designed to last longer and reduce the need for lifelong use of blood thinners.
“This innovation marks a new era in heart valve replacement. Patients can now receive a more durable solution without depending on blood thinners for life,” said Dr Gan, who is trained to implant the valve and mentor other surgeons. He noted that rheumatic heart disease is on the rise in South Asia, including India.
The procedure was carried out by a skilled Cardiac Surgery Team comprising Dr Darshan, Dr Gananjay Salve, Dr Abhishek Prabhu, Dr Parishwanath Patil, Dr Ranajit Naik, along with Dr Sharanagouda Patil, Head of Cardiac Anaesthesia, and his team. Senior Cardiologists Dr Sanjay Porwal and Dr Suresh Patted evaluated and supported the patient.
KLE Society Chairman Dr Prabhakar Kore and Medical Director Rtd Col Dr Dayanand congratulated Dr Gan and his team, calling it a landmark achievement for the people of the region.
