The Betalbatim gram sabha has on Sunday resolved to strengthen door-to-door dry waste collection in the village with the commencement of the new tourism season.

The gram sabha has also resolved to develop the football ground after inking an MoU with the sports department.

The meeting chaired by sarpanch Constancio Miranda saw an officer of the Waste Management Corporation holding a presentation at the gram sabha on waste segregation for members.

After the meeting, the sarpanch informed that the panchayat will collect twice the dry waste from the roadside and from door to door in view of the new tourism season. He said the panchayat does not have any issue with the disposal of wet waste.

The issue over the development of the football ground also came up for discussion. The sarpanch thanked the Chief Minister for directing the sports department to issue an NOC for the panchayat body to develop the

football ground.

On the delay in the beautification of the Betalbatim traffic junction, the sarpanch was questioned by the members over the resolution adopted by the gram sabha at the last meeting.

The sarpanch replied saying that though the panchayat had written a letter to the PWD, no reply has come from the agency till date. “The beautification exercise was taken up many years ago. But, the exercise has been left abandoned midway even though the traffic junction is located right opposite the government primary school.”
